Nife – Chemicals

July 24, 2012

So we haven’t heard a band that creates a sound like this for a while – especially with a female vocalist! Citing Krautrock as one of their major influences – think German avant-garde bands Can and Faust, Nife are definitely a band to go and check out!

When listening to debut album Chemicals we felt like we were being pulled through a 70’s classic rock album with a guitar style that had clearly taken influence from the likes of rock god Jimi Hendrix. This was pooled with a band format which felt akin to Siouxsie & The Banshees meshed with vocal lines in tracks such as Silence that reminded us somewhat of Led Zeppelin.

With Nife describing themselves as”60s Psych meets Krautrock in a Classic Rock casing”, the 3 piece rock band with Nicky- lead singer and vocalist, bassist Scott and drummer Howie have definitely created a sound which brings us back to that classic rock feel whilst still feeling current in todays music.

Nife showed off their diversity with tracks such as If I Was Good and Slow Motion Accidents whichboth incorporatedmoments of laid back soul creating a very interesting contrast. One track on Chemicals which particularly did it for us was Information Overload. With grunge undertones, a combination of strong powerful vocals, psychedelic style bridge and an extremely catchy chorus followed later by a great solo guitar section,Information Overload had us totally absorbed.

If you like the sound of Nife their debut single Chemicals is due to be released 30th July 2012, with their debut album under the same name being released 13th August 2012. But the great news is if you cant wait any longer a free taster of If I Was Good from the album is available for free download from their website here!
