This year will see two of Amazon’s biggest successes end, with The Boys and The Summer I Turned Pretty having their final seasons.
Unfortunately, what will be left is a handful of mediocrity. I can’t help but think this will cause a downfall unless they release another show that has the same success.
The Boys is probably Amazon’s biggest show ever in terms of popularity. The show debuted in 2019 and has had its share of viral moments since. From a man exploding from being hit so hard to an exploding penis, Homelander getting revenge, and Soldier Boy’s rap, which was all over TikTok.
It is a show that everyone knows about and talks about. Even if you haven’t watched the show, there’s no doubt you would have heard about it and some of these moments.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is one of those book adaptations that seem to do the book more justice on screen than what is in the pages.
The show follows Isabel “Belly” Conklin as she and her mother go to their lifelong friends’ beach house in Massachusetts. Her mother’s friend is Susannah Fisher, a wealthy woman who is best friends with Belly’s mother, Laurel, and is joined by her brother, Steven.
Susannah has two sons who are similar in age to Belly, Jeremiah and Conrad, and Belly has had a crush on Conrad since she was ten years old and is now almost 16 years old.
The show’s current two seasons go into the subject of romance, a love triangle, betrayal, dealing with cancer, and grief. There are so many emotions at play that it keeps you gripped to watch each episode.
It is more lighthearted but still gripping and one of the best shows available. What gives these shows the edge is who created them. The Summer I Turned Pretty is created, written, and produced by Jenny Han, the writer of the books and the creator of XO Kitty and the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series. The Boys was created by Eric Kripke and based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Kripke is known for creating Supernatural, which he worked with Jensen Ackles on.
These shows are currently the best ones available. When these runs end this year, what will be left? Not much. Sure, Amazon has other original shows, but none that quite live up to the standard. So the question is, will this lead to a downfall?
Possibly. If Amazon doesn’t create another show that has the same popularity or story as these previous two shows. They might surprise us with something as good in 2026; time will tell.
