End of 24 and no keys to the door By Lola Louise

At 21, you’re expected to have your own house, by 25, you’re supposed to have your own life. Let’s cut the age old, stupid expectations that come with the changing of one number in your age. They’re outdated and are completely unrealistic for modern day, it just adds pressure that is definitely not needed in a crumbling world.

As they call it “older” *eye-rolls* Gen Z or Zillenials, we will never have the life of our parents. We barely stand a chance of having any bit of success, we’re essentially slaves to work, society and there’s no reward. Pay doesn’t meet the living requirements, even if we did quit drinking lattes, going to the gym and stopped watching subscription services, we still wouldn’t have enough for the house deposit. Why not just go on holidays? Why not go and make memories for the now? At this point in time, what do we have to lose? We’re already losing anyway. Gain in the temporary excitement that makes existing a bit easier.

“Back in my day…” yeah, back in your day, your decisions every day have ruined the future for generations to come. Animals are dying off, pollution is at an all time high, the planets getting warmer, life expectancy is going down, health in general is poor because there’s no adequate healthcare and people die before getting help so don’t even go there.

It’s time for you to do what makes you happy the most, even if it is temporary. Why should we have to be miserable? That’s for later in life for those people who didn’t do what they wanted and succumbed to societal pressures to be “normal.” Screw normal, it doesn’t exist. If normal is being a clone, why do you want to be a clone? Why do you want to be a sheep? Stop being scared of yourself and standing out. We’re all meant to be unique. If we were meant to be the same, we would be born that way.
Differences are what make us special, it’s what makes us learn, create and explore. Imagine if every country was the same? That’s the easiest way to imagine. Would you want to visit another country if it was the same as where you live? No, you wouldn’t, that would be boring. Let’s embrace the unique and keep going to strive and accept one another.

Also, if anyone tells you that you’re “too old” for anything, never listen. Do what you feel is right for yourself, nobody knows you, the way you know yourself.
