When I had the idea to try being vegan for the full month of January, I thought it would be difficult. I thought I’d be munching on lettuce while starving.
But it was easy.
In January, supermarkets tend to put on more vegan options than normal. While in the 2000s vegetables might have been the only way for vegans to eat, but now there are so many options.
And it tastes so amazing. There are tonnes of milk options. Personally I find almond milk is delicious in coffee, and soya milk in hot chocolate is so good.
Vegan cheese is mind-blowing. It is addictive. It tastes more like cheese than actual cheese. I’ve had it on toast, in pasta, and in sandwiches. Wherever I can get the opportunity to.
There’s so much. There are cafes I found which only serve vegan food, where I had one of the best paninis of my life, and it came with a tub of vegan garlic mayo, which I would have brought a bucket load of. The festive vegan bake from Greggs was so delicious I couldn’t believe how great it was, but the vegan sausage roll is good but not great.
Then there’s fast food. The McPlant from McDonald’s tastes just like meat, and the veggie dippers were juicy and tasty. KFC has a vegan option, Subway has announced they will be adding four new vegan sandwiches, and I will be trying the Burger King vegan burger later today.
I was so shocked when I tried all this food because if you watch YouTubers who try these vegan options, they act like it is the most disgusting food ever, and they also order a regular burger and a vegan one and compare them and then choose which one they would rather eat, giving it a biased score.
I am not telling you to become vegan; I don’t see myself as one, but I am saying you should try these foods to make up your own mind.
There are plenty of benefits to going vegan for the month. It’s a lot healthier for you, and I found I lost weight in the month with being vegan for that month.
