Rejection therapy By Lola Louise

The newest trend of how to gain confidence and cope with rejection better is by putting yourself out of your comfort zone. This courageous trend was started by Sophie Jones, an inspiring 20 something trying to cope with anxiety. She’s now launched a trend and is about to host her first class on confidence building.

It’s all about showing that people don’t care as much as you think they do, the stuff we think might be embarrassing actually isn’t.

My first go at this was asking if I can take a photo with the canopies in my old school. I expected a no and had to build up courage to ask. I did it and it paid off. We say “shy bairns get nowt” in the north east so that’s my motto going forward.

I really want to normalise dancing in the gym but I haven’t got to that level yet so I’ll build it up first. I’m going to ask for an iced caramel macchiato without the macchiato, does that exist? I don’t exactly know. I just know that me and caffeine are not friends, I was in brain buffer mode for a day.

I think one of my tasks has to be taking a wig off in public like I’m Hannah Montana revealing her secret. I once took a wig off in London as I’d had it on for hours, a little boy stopped and his jaw dropped, he tugged his Mother’s sleeve to look. It was quite funny. I want to do that in a bigger crowd.

Another thing I aim to do is sing with a busker, I’ve had the urge to multiple times and chickened out. I stopped myself as I’m not that level of confident. I can barely speak in front of a crowd.

I want to do the wild stuff, the things my impulsive thoughts make me wanna do but then the intrusives come in causing hell. “Everyone will hate you” I don’t know everyone.

One thing I’ve always wanted to try is to approach people I think would make a great character in one of my projects. I see people and I’m like “wow they definitely could be in a short film” and do nothing.

For me, I’m scared of being judged, I’m scared of doing something wrong, I’m scared of too much and I need to let it go. It’s not exactly logical when you really think. We all have to face our fears at some point or they’ll face us.

Wish me good luck. Challenge starts now.
