The price of fame By Lola Louise

How many lives has the price of fame destroyed or even worse killed? We hear stories quite a lot about the spiral of yet another child star who has grown up and went off the rails. We’re seeing many speaking out about how cutthroat and brutal the industry is, how once you start at a young age, you’re likely the next pawn for anyone who can get their hands on you. If you want a break, it comes at a price and you have to pay that price for freedom. There’s no stopping the machine until you’re not use to them.

It’s nothing new about the exploitation of children and young people within all forms of media/music. You’d think times would have changed from back in the early 1900’s after hearing about the treatment of Shirley Temple who was sexualised and abused while being a child or Judy Garland, who was drugged up to the max all the time and starved. That was the 1930’s. So why 90+ years later are we still hearing about the toxic consequences of these industries and why has nothing changed?

Every month or so, we hear of more stories from actors, musicians and crew about their experiences. Some worse than others. With the recent apparent suicide of Liam Payne who was a product of the industry, isn’t it about time we protect the creatives and put precautions in place to make sure that they’re at their healthiest and best? The industries need an entire overhaul because how many emotional spirals, overdoses, drug addicts, alcoholics and deaths is it going to take for someone to do something!

It seems like the biggest killer within fame is the consequences of existing in a greedy corporate world.

How many lives has the consequences of fame & corporate taken or destroyed? Did they even think to stop for a moment and see the damage? It seems like once you hit the American audience, lives turn upside down.

Amanda Bynes. Cory Monteith RIP. Jennette McCurdy. Demi Lovato. Macaulay Culkin. Drake Bell. Selena Gomez. Bella Thorne. Cole Sprouse. Liam Payne RIP. Brooke Shields. Zendaya. Alyson Stoner. Britney Spears. Lindsay Lohan. Charlie Sheen. Marilyn Monroe RIP. Drew Barrymore. Heath Ledger RIP. Matthew Perry RIP. Elton John. Daniel Radcliffe. Mac Miller RIP. Kurt Cobain RIP. Jonathan Brandis RIP.

This is only a small list, I’m very much sure that there will be more people who have suffered. Where does it end?

I say that there needs to be a welfare officer included in every team, someone that can make sure that the stars feel comfortable where they are. Someone on their side so they don’t get exploited. Someone who has their best interests at heart. We need more people who care about others over people who only care about the money.

Also, the enablers need to be taken down. I say anyone associated with Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein, Dan Schneider and more need investigating. It’s no secret what is going on, even if there’s loads of pay offs and NDA’s.

It’s time to change the industry for the better!
