This show is the exact reason we shouldn’t let Americans have the rights to British series. It’s no surprise that the IMDb rating when straight in at 5.7/10 and has fallen further to 4.8/10.

Talk about copy and paste, I’m not even joking, they took the story, the setting, the characters, the dog and even the exact lines from the pilot episode of Doc Martin. I wish I was joking.

It feels as though the writer was incredibly lazy. They wrote maybe a few differences, it’s embarrassing and cringe worthy. The first scene is the worst thing I’ve probably seen. Also, between the first half and second half of the pilot, it feels completely different energies that just don’t work in the way it should. I’d feel embarrassed to even put my name to such a bad script.

Doc Martin worked because it’s British with British humour. You can’t transport British humour and translate it to American actors expecting it to work.

They’ve made the character of Elaine even more insufferable and I didn’t think that was possible. She’s someone who can’t stop live streaming and vlogging every single moment of her life. I mean everything too, she’d vlog picking up a pen, that’s the type of character they’ve made her. Like please, nobody does that. Not even Gen Z. You can tell whoever wrote that in is someone who just assumes about Gen Z.

They managed to present the character of Martin so wrong. He speaks a lot. He doesn’t speak seriously monotone like how he should. He’s not as brutally honest or stern. They’ve essentially ruined everything the character of Martin is supposed to be. You’re supposed to not like him for his personality but in this version, he’s more sarcastic, speaks too much and is very OTT. There’s no one word answers. Martin is supposed to stand out for all the wrong reasons but he fits in too much.

It feels glamourised by far. Even life on Port Wenn is glamourised. It feels like a village in the Hampton’s or something. Full of rich people. Martin’s house/practice is meant to be run down when he arrives, it’s posh as can be. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Although this series is a comedy-drama, it’s neither. It’s cringeworthy in general. It’s hard to watch in the bad way.

I won’t dare say a bad thing about Annie Potts or her character because I love Annie. She deserves better roles than one in this show. She always gives her best. She puts the best in best medicine.
