I was bored and thought, “okay, well I remember when this happened, it can’t be that bad.” It was horrific. It was nothing like I remember. I felt physically sick and could have sobbed. It was a scary horror movie of survival.
The Captain is the worst person ever, so vain and up himself that he thought he could do what he wants. Never had been on a ship like it but was allowed to be in charge. He deserved a lot more than 16 years in prison, he was reckless and a coward. He abandoned the ship and didn’t care what happened to anyone else. He wasn’t even strong enough to tell people to evacuate. His own crew sacrificed themselves to protect passengers and it resulted in deaths. The massive delay between the ship being hit by a rock and lifeboat evacuations, that time could have saved so many people. He is lucky it is only 32 people.
It’s 2012 and everyone has phones in their hand, yeah, disasters will never be the same because everyone is documenting their experiences. That’s what made it 1000% worse, you saw everything, you could feel the panic, you could see the distress of passengers trying to flee and having nowhere to go. Half the lifeboats couldn’t be released due to the boat sinking on a side, that meant loads were stranded while water was rising throughout. The ship was at a 180 angle, people were sliding all over.
Some crew didn’t care one bit what happened to other staff, they wanted them to keep working despite the ship obviously sinking. That is gross. They deserve to pay for that.
Hearing passengers and some crew retelling their stories, it made me cry. They went through so much. They just wanted to make others proud.
It honestly gives a perspective of what it was like on the titanic in real time without the whole love story element. It’s so hard hitting that you’re shaking. Never in my life have I watched something like it. This is one documentary that I recommend, mainly because I feel it was done right. Netflix normally doesn’t get them right, this time they have.
I honestly don’t think I could go cruising after watching. I really don’t. It was making me scared. It’s a nightmare. I already had a bad experience on a ferry where we got hit by Storm Amy and things went flying. Absolutely not. No thanks.
RIP to the 32 who died, you deserved better!
