Is 3 years too long to make an 8-episode series? by Lee McShane

September 19, 2025

Wednesday season 2 dropped on the 6th August 2025, almost 3 years after the first season was released. Actors are visibly different, especially Pugsley, so why?

3 years is a long time to wait for a show that only has 8 episodes? It doesn’t take that long. When you have other shows, like Law and Order SVU, giving us 20+ episodes a year that are similar in length to Wednesday’s episodes. So what is taking the time?

Production length varies for each show as there are lots of factors to take in, how many writers? How long is the pre-production? The post-production? Etc.

But three years for 8 episodes makes me think that there was a delay whether intended or not.

Now, this might be a one-off as there was a big issue the production had to deal with. The actors and writers’ strike of 2023. If production was meant to start that year then it would have been tough as Hollywood was shut for most of the year. And so, production kicked back up in March 2024 and concluded in December 2024. The length of a production is unusual but we don’t know what factors were involved such as other actors’ schedules and how much time
They needed to prepare for shots like stunt work and such.

That means they were in post-production for just over six months before we got our first look at the trailer.

Now, could we have had the season sooner if the strike had never happened? Yes. We would have had it last year. And with the third season expected to start filming in November, my guess is we will get season three by December 2026.
