I kept seeing clips of this across my Tik Tok without context. I was instantly drawn to the ditsy Ainsley as I thought she was unintentionally funny. I had no idea what this show was about or what a Landman was.
This show is a more raw and unfiltered version of what the original Dynasty was. It follows a family who are in charge of oil rigs in Texas and the people around them who help them succeed. I’ve never watched any of the actors in this show bar Paulina Chavez who was in Winx, Jon Hamm & Demi Moore. I didn’t expect to be gripped by the sheer about of friction and drama. I was shocked when within the first season, plane crash, multiple oil related deaths, threats, falling of a CEO and more.
I realised how rich the oil industry actually is and how much power comes with positions in those companies. One oil well can make millions of dollars.
One of the characters, Cooper, I’m actually proud of him. He went from a basically clueless nepo baby to making his own money, he turned his life around completely. He found love although the friction there is something. I think he’s so sweet underneath the muck of his clothes. The banter between him and Ainsley is too funny.
I like that they portray rich people much more realistically. They’re not dressed inappropriately as they are in Dynasty. Every day is not glamorous and nostalgic rich people dress down to earth, yes they may have the off labels but not night time dresses during the day.
I absolutely love the bond between Ainsley and her mom, Angela, they’re so adorable. They do so much together and are both free spirits. There’s no judgement or restrictions but genuine care for each other. It’s wholesome to see such a healthy relationship portrayed that isn’t cringe worthy to watch.
What I want explored is why Cooper is treated as if he’s not part of the Norris family? He’s treated as an outsider all the time. He’s not a disappointment. There’s more to the story somewhere but it’s open for the future.
Everyone keeps talking about the 2nd season’s finale but I can’t listen yet so I better hurry up and binge it all.
If you tried to predict what happens through this show, you won’t, it can change with no warning and it’s scary. I had to look away at a few points. You have to see this show.
