The Downfall of Casualty By Lola Louise

March 4, 2026

I used to be the biggest fan of this show to the point my wall used to be full of posters, my Twitter full of edits and my conversations full of theories of upcoming episodes. What in the downgrade is going on here? I’m genuinely astounded at how bad it is. It has fallen and now I’m not surprised why they’ve reduced all the episodes.

It’s so unrealistic that I can’t even comprehend what I’m watching, it’s so rose colour and soapy. Not in any way intense. All the music through the scenes makes it look worse. The scripting is overdramatic to the point it sounds unserious.

Back in the peak, 30th anniversary, you were absolutely glued to the screen, in shock at what you were watching, you couldn’t move. The drama was so juicy that you couldn’t stop talking about it for weeks. A car off a cliff, then a helicopter crash in one episode, the characters were so complex and real, their stories found a way to relate to everyone.

You don’t need music to show intensity of a scene, you need a good script, without that, it’s just a failure. Every few seconds there’s music, it’s stupid and it’s distracting.

The new format for episodes is confusing, if anyone wanted to catch up or start watching, there’s actually no way to know where to begin from. It’s no longer in an order that can be followed which limits their audience.

Someone exposed to foreign diseases like Ebola, are you serious? Someone bleeding out their eyes, ears and nose suddenly for dramatic effect? It’s laughable.

I’ve found the perfect way to describe what I’m watching, it’s singy songy. I had to leave the room as I couldn’t take it. My Grandma still watches whereas I don’t. I can see why loads of the actors I knew have left and wouldn’t return, it’s just not good. I wouldn’t want to put my name to it.

As a writer, if you want to create drama, you want realistic and unexpected, things being fine and then suddenly not. Take, The Pitt, regular Louie, he needed treatment, he was fine and then by the end of the hour, he was in cardiac arrest. I screamed “noooo” because how dare they. It came from nowhere almost. I mean he was talking the whole time being funny and now, he could be dead. It’s the perfect cliffhanger that you can’t forget.

Casualty has switched to a similar format to The Pitt so how come they’re doing it so wrong, do they even know how wrong they’re doing it? I’d love to know.

Before I sign this off, I have to say, I miss the days of rivalry between Connie and Zoe, it was top tier and real.
