Waterloo Road S17 By Lola Louise

The final term for many students who won’t be seen again unfortunately. Many who didn’t get a good send off despite having such an impact.

This series focuses on more important issues in the middle of the usual unrealistic drama.

Izzy attacking Donte was so sad and heartbreaking. Although most will be angry at Izzy for what she’s done, it takes hitting a certain point of rock bottom to understand the build up of anger she has to lash out. She feels suffocated by antagonistic behaviour that makes her feel she can’t release emotions without lashing out, very like Donte, when younger. He smashed up Brett’s car when younger, hit quite a few people too.

Something that bugged me about this storyline is it felt like it was over way too quickly and Izzy moved on so fast. She found football and is magically better. That wouldn’t have happened in the real world. With all the anger she’s had, she wouldn’t heal overnight.

I did love that Izzy got together with Cat, it was inevitable after the last series. I don’t think they’ll work out for long as they’re too opposite of one another to not argue over something every few hours. It feels bipolar.

Portia featured heavily this series and I’m glad she finally had a makeover, the tango chav make up was so years ago. She looks 1000% better with a clean girl aesthetic. I wish that her friends were more supportive of her being a MUA as that’s what she wanted. It just wasn’t nice. They’re really not her friends in reality.

When she went through grooming, her friends jumped to the wrong conclusions each time and made her sound crazy for taking an interest in football. It was sad to see that her football coach who had helped her come out of her shell fully was a paedo and made her strip. It was so wrong. She felt she couldn’t even speak to her friends fully. They were being judgemental. It was done the wrong way. I would have loved to see Portia opening up to someone about events than hearing everything secondhand.

Steph Haydock coming back was the best thing to happen. She proved she was a girl’s girl and I love that. Although a less than adequate teacher, she always knew how to help students when they needed it most. I loved her role. She contributed a lot with not much screen time. I need her back. She has to be back fully.

I loved the honorable Grantly Budgen mention, it made my heart warm. There was emotional moments between Steph & Donte. Donte and Jack’s bromance, their hug had me in tears. My Shayla’s, in online speak.

I can’t wait for next series whenever it may be. It’s in a new set which I have an idea how it links on. A merger was mentioned due to falling numbers, if that goes ahead, they’d need a bigger school. We all assumed it could be a fire but I doubt they’d be able to destroy an active college. I’m excited either way. Bring it on.
