When was the last time one person had so much success in multiple sectors of the entertainment? Michael Crichton was successful in everything he did.
As an author. He wrote so many influential books, such as The Andromeda Strain, Prey, Sphere, and Jurassic Park. His novels were that successful; Jurassic Park had its film rights auctioned and sold before the book was released. 14 of his novels have been adapted into films, which he had a hand in too.
And that is another aspect. He wrote the novel for Jurassic Park and also wrote the screenplay for the 1993 film. It became one of the highest-grossing films of all time. He also wrote the 1996 disaster film Twister, which too went on to be a success. Michael also directed an adaptation of his book, The Great Train Robbery, and wrote and directed films like Westworld and Looker.
Not stopping at film, TV was also a step he took. Most notably, ER, which is one of the best medical dramas to grace our screens. It ran for 15 seasons and won many awards. Prior to this, Michael had been involved as a writer of 3 episodes of the show Insight and worked on the TV film, Pursuit.
He did all this while having a scientific and legal career. He campaigned for multiple good causes and, by all reports, was such an amazing man. He is an inspiration to those who want to step into the world of filmmaking.
