Quiet, quiet, quiet, BANG!! Traditional horror tropes-aplenty in ‘You’re Next’, but these old tricks remain as viciously effective as ever.

When family and friends gather for a weekend get together, they quickly become the target of a masked gang intent on wreaking bloodshed. As the fear, panic and chaos ensues, the ante is ranked up to a tense and claustrophobic embattlement with the perpetrators.

Utilising plenty of imaginative and flamboyant directorial tricks, this is an energetic horror throwing plenty of bloody pizzazz into a familiar mix. If the premise smacks a little of ‘same-old, same-old’, there is enough edge here to offer some decent jumpy scares for the horror film fan.

Finally, if one thing is absolutely sure, it is that this mumblegore picture is anything but a blunt instrument.
