Anna Calvi At Latitude Festival 2014

July 21, 2014

Anna Calvi was suprisingly dressed down for her blistering set on the BBC 6 Music Stage on Friday evening. Her casual look consisted of hair down with black trousers and a white blouse and at first seemed disjointed from her usual polished set. However, her blinding vocal power and feather fingered guitar plaing soon drew you back in to her vampy lure.

The modest crowd gathered in the tent consisted of avid fansscattered amongst thosewho were peaking in curiosity. Those who were unfamiliar were definately Anna Calvi converts by the end of the climatic cover of Edith Piaf’s “Jezebel”.

The set list gave new material (album ‘One Breath’) an airing alongside fan classics such as “I’ll Be Your Man”, “Desire” and “Love Won’t Be Leaving”, from Calvi’sMecury Music Prize nominated eponymous debut album.

Calvi once again provides fanswith exceptional guitar playing and hekkle rising vocals that prove this half Italian singer-songwriter has the exceptional skills that prove she’s on par,if not exceeding, in amarket which is conventionally dominated with male guitarists.
