Bellowhead at Hop Farm 2012

June 30, 2012

My friend Toby has been telling me for years that I need to see Bellowhead. Every time he wants to win cool points he’ll bring them up. So I decided to see if he was all talk and no penis, or if there were good.

Bellowhead are a sizeable group of 11 who play a mixture of traditional styles. They manage to whip up a fair bit of energy, even encouraging some downright dirty folk-skank dancing. There were demonstrations for some of the dance steps, which was good because I didn’t have a bloody clue what to do.

The set draws to a close and they announce that they’re going to play “another song about sailors.” The weather, the music, the food. It’s a celebration of the universe!

Oh wait, they have time for one more!

A little maritime bounce gets the front few thousand leaping again. There’s even at ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH at one point.

And we’re done. My friend Toby was right.
