Flares, torrential rain, booing Kanye and food poisioning: Catfish and The Bottlemen light up the Other Stage

June 26, 2015

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. However, what are you going to do when you slurp that lemonade and it gives you a disastrous case of food poisoning?

Faced with the unfortunate circumstances of the above and a flash flood, Catfish and the Bottlemen took a hold of the Other Stage this afternoon with the raucous energy and maturity that centres their debut album, ‘The Balcony’. Singing through a sheet of rain, Van McCann screaches the lines of their hit ‘Kathleen’. Amidst the fits of apoplexy in the crowd, there are flares being lit, scarves being waved around heads and screeching on a revitalised Other Stage.

A CD is frisbeed toward the group. Van McCann tells the security to “leave that” and tells the man in the front row that he’ll “listen to your CD, promise”. It is a adequate depiction of the group’s comradery with their listeners, something that seems to have transcended fans across the corners of their Glastonbury audience. And by the sound of the ‘boos’, they weren’t too thrilled however with the mention of Saturday night headliner Kanye West.

The set, brief and succinct, alludes to a group who will soon be booked to shine a light in the later hours in the future.
