Glastonbury Review: Stefflon Don

June 23, 2023

Rapper Stefflon Don has a very tough act to follow right now… no, not the people on before her, the fact that in 2019, she got Idris Elba on stage with her at Glastonbury to rap. That is a high bar, and lets be honest, we’re expecting something equally exciting today.

Stefflon takes the stage with her backing dancers wearing shocking pink, which lets be honest is great if you’re at the back. Two things instantly become clear: this is a polished performer at the top of her game, and if there’s a BBC employee back home having to press some sort of explicit lyrics warning they’re going to be very busy.

The first songs are unapologetically horny, but it’s Friday, we’ve all still got energy, the temperature in us is rising. But it’s also fantastically chilled and perfect as the sun is currently out.

Several songs later and I feel the need to be watching this while somehow on a beach. Do they have a beach here? They probably do.

Just in case anyone was unclear, Stefflon tells the crowd she’s not sure who else will be doing ass shaking this weekend, so she is here to do the ass shaking. A twerk off ensues.

Before the last song, Stefflon speaks to the crowd, telling us that her hard work paid off, she came from nothing and is here and we can do the same, never give up the dream. At this point in the set its genuinely inspiring stuff.

At the end, there’s been no guest stars, not even a second vocalist. She didn’t, and doesn’t need it. This was a great set by an accomplished performer.
