It comes as no surprise: Kool and the Gang are the synchro dancin’, hit bustin’, bass poppin’, crowd pleasin’ antithesis of Bob Dylan. Taking the Sunday afternoon spot, the various members of Kool’s gang (and God knows which ones are from back in the day and which one’s answered the Gumtree ad) jive, jump, holler and shimmy ‘cross the stage, all in honour of the great God ENTERTAINMENT. As they montage the smash packed back catalogue with the silkiness of seasoned pros two things become apparent: 1) They are cheesy as fuck and 2) I could watch them for hours.

The hits get ticked off like a bingo players score card.Fresh, Hollywood Swinging, Ladies Night, Get Down On It… by the time the band finish on a triumphant Celebration I’m fully prepared for the crowd to scream !HOUSE! and conga manically round the site. As it is there’s a bit of a sing-a-long, high 5’s for the eager, and scores of dad’s dancing with their kids. If ever there was an archetype of ‘the guilty pleasure’ then this, my friends, is it.
