Lacuna Coil at Costa de Fuego 2012

July 23, 2012

Playing on the second stage at the same time as headliners Guns N’ Roses, Lacuna Coil did themselves proud by attracting a huge crowd of fans. Something of a rarity on the metal scene, the band is fronted by female vocalist, Cristina Scabbia, whose voice is always emotive and powerful. Harmonising with Lacuna Coil vocal talent Andrea Ferro on Friday night, their voices blended to create something quite remarkable.

Scabbia excelled on stage, talking to the crowd in both English and Spanish (the band are actually Italian) and leading chants, working her sex appeal at all times, which both she and the crowd were fully aware of. Perhaps it’s this female touch that makes Lacuna Coil so unique in their field, their only obvious comparison being to Evanescence.

Belting out bass-heavy, melodic tunes from their 2012 international success ‘Dark Adrenaline’, amongst some of their lighter, more guitar based songs from over the years, Lacuna Coil gave their rivals over on the main stage a run for their money. Without a doubt, Lacuna Coil were one of our highlights of the festival weekend.
