Mighty Oaks seem to be stirring up quite a force in Europe. With 2 million (and counting) views of their breakout track “Brother” and a string of European festival dates over the Summer have cemented them as the go to place while Mumford and Sons take a well earned break.
Truth is they are equally as good as the aforementioned folksters and we find ourselves in Brighton on one of a scattering of tour dates for the UK.
The Coalition in Brighton is usually reserved as a nightclub but it turns itself into a folk gig venue admirably and the 150 or so punters that come out to great the band don’t seem to mind one bit.
When they do eventually grace the stage (traffic on the way down from Manchester was a bitch) the hour or so we were kept waiting out in the rain dissipates. Tracks like ‘Just One Day’, ‘Seven Days’ and the aforementioned “Brother” create a relaxed and intimate yet upbeat atmosphere.
If they carry on like this don’t be surprised to see them working their way up the festival schedule over here.
