Nathaniel Ratcliffe and The Night Sweats at Black Deer 2023 by David Court

June 17, 2023

It’s been a long time since Nathaniel Ratecliffe played the UK but as the man himself said when you fly halfway across the world and end up in a festival with fellow friends such as Bonny Light Horseman and Midlake playing at different stages across the site it kind of feels like you’re home anyway.

Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats played blistering, set of fan, favourites and classics from his past three recordings (plus a nod from his solo outing) providing the perfect end to the perfect day at this year’s Black Deer festival.

Receiving a hero’s welcome from the 7000 strong crowd and kicking things off with “I’ve Been Falling” the Nightsweats sounded tight and ready for a party. One wonders why Ratecliffe took a break from them in 2019 for his solo “It’s Still Alright” album however the rest did them all good and they came back fighting with The Future in 2021 and most recently a brand new EP”What If I” this June.

Howling At Nothing , Wasting Time and his stunning solo track “And It’s Still Alright” all packed the middle section of the set as the sun bowed down behind the stage for the day.

But it was Friday night, and the party that everyone was here for soon got delivered in the final half hour of the set with cooling out, I need never get old, S.O.B., and finally Love Don’t and the band took the final bow.

Fingers crossed they make it across the pond again soon.
