Performing the vast majority of their debut album, Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds went down like a storm at this year’s FIB. The performance was professional and the band was at ease. Noel, whose voice was melodically engaging, appeared to be carefree and surprisingly approachable, given his legendary status as the frontman of Oasis.

They played a selection of lesser known and more popular Oasis hits, including ‘Half The World Away’, ‘(It’s Good) To Be Free’ and ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, with the latter being their last song. Unsurprisingly, the Oasis songs went down very VERY well, but so did the rest of the set. Furthermore, we’ve got to hand it to Noel for not giving in to the crowd and playing ‘Wonderwall’ (which was belted out by nearly everyone in the audience prior to the band taking the stage.)

All in all, a first class performance from one of Britain’s best – and just to make it that little bit more special, it turned out to be their hundredth gig. Apparently, of those hundred, the crowd at Benicassim were the best. We’re touched, Noel (but then, bands say that all the time, don’t they?)
