Royal Blood’s gnarly dark punk sends fans into moshing chaos, while Peace spread the love on their debut main stage appearance to an impressive turn out, showcasing new songs that are already showing their worth as festival favourites. A naturally hyperactive set from Sweden’s punk rock’n’rollers The Hives skivvies the crowd into action and into the festival spirit.

Following on the main stage, Foster The People pull in the numbers, quenching the audience’s insatiable appetite with a show stopping performance of ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ where the roar of the crowd thundered across the campsites. Next up, Imagine Dragons sound like an arena-sized band as they lead a mass sing along to big hit, ‘Radioactive’.

A definite highlight of the festival so far, Bombay Bicycle Club put on a sublime performance on the NME tent, with faultlless performance and an awe inspiring light show, the band really understand the level of performance expected for a band playing Reading festival.

After his secret acoustic set on the BBC Introducing stage, Jake Bugg is a very welcome surprise with an extremely mature set comprised of both his debut and sophomore album, Shangri La, both receiving an equally warm welcome from fans.

Arctic Monkeys close the night with an unfathomably large audience, and play all of the fan favourites, ‘I Bet That You look Good On The Dancefloor’, ‘Teddy Picker’, ‘Do I Wanna Know’ and ‘When The Sun Goes Down’ all get an airing. However, when the band finish fifteen minutes early, it was impossible not to question how much the show actually meant to the indie rock heroes.
