Whilst Thursday brought us rain, pain and a whole lot of mud based misery, all now feels wonderfully serene at the close of the first day of music at Reading Festival 2015.
As eclectic as ever, Reading proves just one day in why it remains at the forefront of the British festival scene. We’ve seen everything from the brilliance of Parquet Courts, to the angst filled (or uplifting, depending on who you are…) offerings of Panic! At The Disco. As the sun sets upon Little John’s Farm, Alt-J wow the Main Stage with their unique brand of haunting guitar music, whilst on the NME stage, Limp Bizkit bring together the energetic party that perhaps, Alt-J can’t don’t cater for. With the night drawing to the close, Django Django played a mixture of their two albums to date to wow the Reading faithful, whilst good old tweed wearing come new found ‘rockers’ Mumford and Sons graced the Main Stage with a general feeling of warmth milling out of the Arena as the night comes to a close.
As with every year, there is an unmistakeable charm that hangs in the Reading air. All people young and old have come together to celebrate the last few smatterings of summer in a wonderfully innocent and inviting atmosphere. Yes, there isn’t the hidden piano deep within a forest wood, or the secluded cinema tucked away down a rabbit hole. But to ask for that would be to ignore the very essence of Reading. Here, we have one of the UK’s greatest festivals providing no-nonsence, good natured musical enrichment with a touch or two of drunken debauchery here or there. Perfect.
Here’s to Saturday.
