We managed to catch the last of their four-legged seaside tour… with the four London chaps, absolutely killing the packed out Brighton Centre last night!!!
So many superlatives have been handed their way in the past year and a bit, no more complimentary than when last month Reading & Leeds Festival supremo ‘Melvin Benn’ touted The Vaccines as future headliners…
Any doubters in the above statement, (that on the back of only one album may seem slightly brave) need just go and see them live. They delivered last night on an epic scale from start to finish leaving the crowd etching for more!!! In the words of Gareth Keenan “Bastards… knew they would”
‘Old’ favourites such as ‘Wreckin Bar’, ‘A Lack of Understanding’ and ‘Post Break-Up Sex’ ensured the huge sell-out crowd quickly became a sweaty sea of movement and raw energy… however a few new tracks were thrown in the mix and received with equal zest…
These included the opener of the night ‘No Hope’ and the zealous and ridiculously catchy ‘Teenage Icon’ both tracks were trademark Vaccines, with raucous guitar riffs and catchy pop lyrics… (Yep pop lyrics – Justin Young recently announced the bands pride in producing pop songs) – Which why not, if people remember it’s an abbreviation for popular and not in fact for ‘another PieceOfPiss’ errrm S-Club, Steps, One Direction – Yep I’ve just slagged off some of my Childhood/Current fave’s right there #SellOut!
The highlight of the night had to be their biggest hit to date… yep ‘If You Wanna’… a high-octane performance of this belter nearly took the roof of the place, with all 3 balcony’s coming to their feet, every lyric was being echoed back by the crowd who were going absolutely crazy… Definitely got hit by a lot of cider in that mosh, at least I think it was cider (was slightly warm – oh). Listen to the track below…
The guys then went off to a chorus of “One more song”… Although they rudely refused, and played two instead… YES! First up was their record store day cover of ‘Stevie Moore’s ‘Why Should I Love You’ when they were joined on stage by ‘Savages – Jem’… they then finished with an amazing performance of ‘Noorgard’ epic!!! Check out Noorgard below…
Performing their full-debut album ‘What Did You Expect From The Vaccines’ in full alongside some new belters, I reckon the answer to their first question is definitely looking like ‘Some more of the same please’ – which would be a terrible answer if their debut album wasn’t as brilliant as it is!!!
You can catch the London Indie-darlings at loads of festivals this summer including, ‘Field Day Festival’, ‘Benicassim’ and ‘Reading and Leeds’.
