Jungle versus Reggae was brought to Blue Mountain Club on Stokes Croft by Trojan Sounds and stellar ethical clothing company THTC.It was an all nighter spread across 2 rooms; THTC making the place look good with banners and merch to peruse and the insatiable Trojan Records adding another string to it’s bow, having been servicing the hearts and minds of roots, ragga and jungle fans for more than 4 decades now.
Blue Mountain has a undercover smoking area on the roof, 2 bars and a pretty decent sound system. We like the tops hanging suspended from the ceiling- a different way of keeping the sound clean and bass heavy.

Despite the dismal weather, the vibe for revelers who braced the elements to enter the cozy matt black annals of the club was proper energetic, and it got very quickly packed out.

The hosts from Trojan Soundsystem were lively and interactive, you could see they were up for the night and habitually stepped up to the mic to blast some positive, rasta-flavoured rhetoric at the eager ears of the crowd. Their track Look To The East was a club rockin’ high point.

It was a noticeably international gathering, which is is getting to be your Bristol standard anyway, then combine that with more dreadlocks per head than a Playdoh Barbershop and it’s safe to say that if you want a bouncy atmosphere, put your trust in Trojan and they will deliver.

Downstairs the DJs pulled out some bite sized hip hop classics from the likes of Rodney P and Eazy-E, and some old favourites from gurus like Black Uhuru and Barrington Levy got interfered with by way of some seriously sick skills in mixing and scratching. All in all a Happy Sat’dy!
