Yossarian at Hop Farm 2012

June 29, 2012

It’s technically still morning when Yossarian take the stage as the opening act on the Big Tent stage. It’s the band’s debut festival performance (the drummer’s first time at a festival) and they’re here because of Supajam. Yay!

A healthy crowd of a few hundred people welcome the Anglo-Argentine band to Hop Farm. So much energy at this sort of hour, what masochists! The band are lead by Ash, who reminds me of a passionate, elegant and mildly effeminate Super Hans. This is a good thing. Their sound is expansive rock, there’s a bit of synth but they don’t make a big deal out of it.

A lighter number is interrupted slightly by the awakening rides at the adjacent funfair. But those who weren’t distracted were treated by some very fluid guitar by Joaquin, who managed to produce long, soft, emotional moans from his instrument. If Joaquin can treat a woman how he treats a guitar, then you’d best form a queue now ladies.

There’s also a laptop on an old wooden chair. I don’t know if this is deliberate or not, I hope so. If not, then they should really start doing it more often.

A tight finish, a plug for the bands website (where you can donate to the album) and Hop Farm 2012 has begun!

They even thanked Supajam for getting them the slot. TEN POINTS!
