The BBC have spent the best part of the last few years alienating long term listeners of Radio 2 by bringing in younger DJs and pulling up the dates of the music they play. A lot have moved on (often following the DJs).
The Beeb are now making an attempt to win them back by announcing that radios 1,2 and 3 will get spin off digital stations focusing on… well the people they pissed off.
Officially this means “The new extensions look to delve deeper into specific genres and periods of music with context, curation and storytelling done in a way only the BBC can do,” which means a Radio 2B playing music from the 50s, 60s and 70s, and a Radio 1 with music from the noughties and a dance channel. Oh, and a dedicated Radio 3 chill.
Is it too late? Will people move around?
