Black Deer Focus: Jordan Mackampa

By MediaMonkey

May 17, 2021
Jordan Mackampa grew up in Coventry, has Congolese roots and spent a childhood listening to his mother’s favourite US soul singers. The stage is thus set for Jordan to fuse everything together and produce his own take, which he’s done marvellously.

Take a listen to What Am I, which has the same grand aim of Michael Kiwanuka’s recent award winnings songs but a rawer take on things, an indie -soul. Ask yourself, well what could he do if someone threw Abbey Road studios at him? Then ask no more, because we have two cuts from an Abbey Road session recorded live, in form of Peace by Piece and Alibi. You get the feeling through these tunes that Jordan is an irrepressible positive fellow who’d be equally at home in a small pub playing, or with an orchestra giving it the full award winner (which we’d like to see).

The ‘Come Around’ EP is out now, and Jordan is playing Black Deer on Friday June 25th. Black Deer Festival 2021 is June 25th to 27th at Eridge Park in Kent. Tickets from here.  https://blackdeerfestival.seetickets.com/?src=SupaJam
