British government declare war on ticket touts

One of the British Labour parties promises during 2024’s election campaign was to combat the problems of ticket touting.

They might have ditched every other campaign promise, but this one survived. They are indeed going to put a cap on resale values of tickets in music, sport and much more.

There’ll be a consultation on what this cap is, with face value or up to 30% being considered.

They will also take a look at the controversial dynamic pricing.

This is great, as gigs should see the acts getting the money ad fans getting to go, we don’t need unrelated people in the middle ripping everyone else.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said: “I believe that music belongs to fans, and that fans make the music industry what it is… Fans want to buy tickets but they can’t, because I don’t know anyone in this country that can afford £1,000… for a ticket.”
