Cambridge Folk Festival has been running since 1965 and in its most recent incarnation was a four day event. Legends such as Joan Baez, Nick Cave, Suzanne Vega and Robert Plant have played.

However, in January the 2025 edition was cancelled. The festival is run by the council and they said it would return in 2026. In the meantime there was a small budget for folk events.

Now, ahead of a meeting, details have been published… and it’s been discovered the 2025 show was cancelled after the 2024 one was £320,000. Documents show the festival normally made 200k, but audience numbers were lower and the movement of Latitude festival to the same weekend was cited as a possible cause.

This year is to be a discussion and a planning period, to decide if the festival can come back and if so, how it can be made to pay for itself.
