Danny Elfman is very much known for his composing, with credits including Tim Burton and Good Will Hunting, and very much not known for solo work… because he hasn’t released a solo album since 1984 and that was called ‘So-Lo.’
However, Danny appears to have had some free time in lockdown as announced a whole new solo album, so after a wait of thirty-seven years fans can download ‘Big Mess’ on June 11th. There’s a new track from it called ‘True’ out, and it comes with a video that’s going to need the explanation: “The video is an exploration of fractured identity, muffled through the lens of memory,” director Sarah Sitkin explained. “Danny is a central figure within the video, yet only in his reproduced likeness via prosthetics, masks and 3D printed body parts. I wanted to make a video that was gritty, unpolished and uncomfortable.”
What does solo Danny sound like? ‘True’ is the sort of industrial that would have fitted onto the Se7en soundtrack.
