The Dropkick Murphys have recorded two albums set in the lyrics and music of Woody Guthrie, and for the first single from it they’ve filmed themselves doing a live performance sat round the statue of the legend that resides in Okemah, Oklahoma. This is intercut with footage of the band at concerts, etc., but it does nicely give the idea of Woody joining in.
The song is “Two 6’s Upside Down” and the band explained “‘Two 6’s Upside Down’ is acoustic, but it’s still tough. It’s edgy and these lyrics are menacing. We just wanted to show right out of the gate that even though this album is acoustic, it’s still going to have some fire.”
The song’s taken from the LP ‘This Machine Still Kills Fascists’, out September 30th, which is volume one of the Murphys excursion into Guthrie.
