Ed Sheeran paused the release of music for a few years to focus on something he felt was more important: the birth of his first child. Lyra rightly occupied a lot of his time, and it turns out Ed considered much more than some paternity leave: he considered retiring from music full time.
“I stopped playing music for a bit,” he told SiriusXM. “And music is entirely me as a person. Then I had my daughter and I was like: ‘Right, that’s it. This is me. I am probably just going to be a dad. I am not going to play music anymore’”.
Ed has nothing more to prove in music, and his family journey is just starting. Wouldn’t blame him, but it would have been a loss to the public. However after plenty of daddy duties, he thought to himself: “Then I was suddenly like: it is more important for my daughter to grow up knowing that her parents have a work ethic?… I slowly got back into music that way and the creative process started flowing again.”
Which is why there’s a fourth album coming soon.
