When Ukraine won Eurovision, the contest faced a problem: it was deemed unsafe to stage a massive event in a country undergoing bombing. Britain hosted for Ukraine.
In recent years, Israel has come second twice, and quite frankly not many people fancy trying to run the Eurovision safely there.
In response, Eurovision has changed its laws to codify an ongoing answer: if there’s a “sensitive geopolitical situation” compromising “security, safety or stability of their state or immediate region” Eurovision will pick a different country to host.
Essentially, if you’re at war, whether it’s your fault or not, the contest isn’t going there.
Hard to argue with that.
