Eurovision collapses into chaos

The 2024 Eurovision song contest has descended into chaos. During the rehearsal on Friday afternoon, Dutch star Joost was stopped from performing, and a statement was released saying he had been suspended pending an investigation into an ‘incident’.

No one has any idea what the incident was, and press conferences began to be cancelled. The evening performance – in which the judges assign their scores – went ahead without Joost. Instead a previous live performance was screened.

The crowd that was there booed the news he’d been temporarily banned, and gave the loudest cheer of the night to his song.

The latest official statement is:

“The investigation into the incident with the Dutch artist in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest is still ongoing.”

“Discussions are also taking place between the EBU and AVROTROS, the Dutch participating broadcaster.

“While the investigation continues the EBU has decided that Joost Klein will not perform during Dress Rehearsal 2 of the competition which is voted on by juries in the 37 participating countries.

“His performance from Semi Final 2 will be used instead.”

“We have no further comment at this time and will update in due course.”
