Festival lineup unite to get Die Antwoord thrown off
The multiple allegations of misconduct towards Die Antwoord… actually let’s be clear here, they’re accused of sexual assault, revenge porn and homophobic violence among other things, from multiple parties. While the band have always denied the claims, their announcement for Alt+LDN Festival in London has caused other acts on the lineup to team up and demand their removal.
Zand said “it must be said I do not feel comfortable at all with a certain band (Die Antwoord) playing this festival…Having a safe space for victims and all people should be a priority to all of us and in this instance because it is not, I will not allow my stance on this to come off as complacent by not addressing what needs to be addressed… every other artist on this bill: let’s get it.”
And they did. Bob Vylan demanded the bands axing, “If not, I and other acts I’m sure will protest their presence with our presence, and make it extremely fucking uncomfortable for them to be there, I can guarantee that… We cant give abusers, racists and homophobes a platform just because they make someone, somewhere a lot of money!”
The protests worked, as Die Antwoord are no longer on the bill “by mutual agreement.” For their part, Die Antwoord deny everything.
