The spotlight in the Fugees was on Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean: no one really gave much thought to the third and final member, Pras Michel.

Unfortunately, the US Justice Department was paying attention and Michel has got himself in a lot of trouble. Just been sentenced to fourteen years in prison trouble.

The convictions revolve around illegal lobbying: taking money from foreign sources like Malaysian billionaire scammer Jho Low and China, and then using that to try and influence votes in American pretending the cash and his intentions came from elsewhere.

Prosecutors spoke of cash figures over $100m being sent to Pras, and described him as someone who “betrayed his country for money.”

Michel has been hard done by however. He was the only one of a group of accused who went to trial. The others a pardon, probation and 24 months inside. That said, prosecutors asked for life.
