AI risks destroying the lives of many writers and artists, and George RR Martin is the lastet author to strike back. He, John Grisham, Jodi Picault and many more members of the Authors Guild have signed on to a lawsuit suing OpenAI, the company behind Chat GPT.

They claim the software in ChatGPT was illegally fed their copyrighted material to train it. OpenAI say it is willing to discuss with authors ways in which everyone can benefit.

It’s a brave and bold move, but unlikely to make much difference. Strong government intervention is needed for that, to stop whole creative industries being erased.
