Glastonbury reveal their plans to avoid congestion

A UK newspaper which wanted to run a hack job on Glastonbury claimed there was a danger of crowd crushes and tried to kick up a viral doom surge. This is probably a punishment for the festival sticking to their bookings.

Anyway, Glastonbury – in the form of boss Emily Eavis – have been speaking about their crowd plans. The first takeaway is they have deliberately sold less tickets than their local council licence allows. Rather than chase the max they are allowed, they’ve taken a look at the possibilities and gone for a number thousands lower.

The other big one is what their app’s doing. Huge numbers of people now use the festivals official app to plan their time, noting which performances they want to visit and how to timetable it all.

But it’s not just a helpful app for the public. Glastonbury are closely monitoring what everyone’s doing on their app so they have a sense ahead of time where the masses are going. They already started shifting things around to adapt, including changing the stages performers are on.

Clever stuff.
