For a while The White Stripes dominated alt rock, the instantly recognisable duo of Jack and Meg White.

When this partnership ended, Jack White went on with his solo career (which includes running a vinyl printing factory) and Meg dropped out of the limelight. That may well be how she wanted it.

But it’s her 50th birthday, and Jack posted a message on his Instagram: “HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY to my big sister, the great Meg White. There’s only one of you Meggo, they broke the mold. You’re still inspiring people, including me. Love you so much.”
