Kim Petras has floated around the music scene for many years, gathering devoted fans but no major fame. Even a Grammy win (for appearing on Sam Smith’s Unholy) could only be followed by mediocre album launches.

It’s perhaps for this reason Petras’ label are reluctant to release her new album. Petras has gone public to say the LP’s been finished for six months but the label won’t give her a date… she also says they’ve withheld payment from collaborators, which is the unacceptable part.

As such, Petras has asked to be released from her label, Republic Records, so she can self release.

She also accused labels in general of not being interested unless you’re a “tik tok trend” or “80s revival queerbaiting.”
