This is a very odd story. Lizzo, who has endured an entire career of people abusing her for her body, has had a lawsuit filed against her by three former dancers accusing her of fat shaming, sexual harassment and religious and racial discrimination. Oh, and the false imprisonment.
The accusers are Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez, all former dancers for Lizzo, and the suit is against her, her dance captain and production company.
The suit claims “In professional dance, a dancer’s weight gain is often seen as that dancer getting lazy or worse off as a performer. Lizzo’s and Ms. Scott’s questions about Ms. Davis’s commitment to the tour were thinly veiled concerns about Ms Davis’s weight gain… they “gave Ms Davis the impression that she needed to explain her weight gain and disclose intimate personal details about her life in order to keep her job.”
The dancers alleged they were the target of harsh and bullying comments, but “only the dance cast – comprised of full-figured women of colour – were ever spoken to in this manner, giving [the dancers] the impression that these comments were charged with racial and fat-phobic animus”.
There’s many more claims, including a lack of payment and sexual harassment.
Lizzo hasn’t commented.
