Matthew McConaughey is making calls about standing for Texas Governor
A recent survey said more people would vote for Matthew McConaughey for Governor of Texas than wanted to vote for the current governor, and McConaughey said it could happen. Now, however, there is a report that he’s making serious calls to sound out whether to run or not.
Politico spoke to multiple sources who said the discussions have taken place, although neglected to name the “a deep-pocketed moderate Republican and energy CEO” they referred to.
McConaughey didn’t wish to comment on Politico’s article, but a Republican strategist called Brendan Steinhauser sees this as plausible: “I’m a little more surprised that people aren’t taking him more seriously, honestly. Celebrity in this country counts for a lot … it’s not like some C-list actor no one likes. He has an appeal.”
