In Our Time is one of the BBC’s gems – and god knows they haven’t got many of them left – a program of polite inquiry in which experts on culture, history science, philosophy and so much more got to speak and be interviewed by Melvin Bragg.

Or in social media terms, Joe Rogan for people with a brain.

Melvin Bragg has presented – and done the all important questioning – since it began in 1998 when he essentially set it up with just a six month contract, but now the 85 year old is stepping back.

However, he assures us he’ll be involved with picking the next host.
