It’s coming up to a year since MF Doom sadly died… well given the speed this year is going at it feels like we’re rushing towards the Halloween date. Tributes poured out for a man who was clearly shown to have been a rapper’s rapper, and now one idea has taken solid hold: rename a street block in Long Beach, New York after him.
The campaign was led by professor and former Doom school friend Dr. Patrick Graham: “I’m just happy this is happening because it’s not only a victory for Dumile’s legacy, but it’s also about showing that community our generation,” Graham explained after the council said yes, “It is a way for people to see a symbol of our generation and our impact, particularly in a community that’s gentrifying pretty fast.”
It probably won’t be called ‘KMD-MF DOOM WAY,’ as “there’s going to be some indication of his actual government name… That’s all I knew him as was Dumile. They were trying to do it before his birthday, but I feel we shouldn’t rush.”
Good stuff.
