Growing up neurodiverse in a world that’s not built for you is extremely hard, it’s harder if you don’t know why you are the way you are. I grew up wondering why I couldn’t read properly, I could read the words but I couldn’t understand them or what the sentence meant. It made learning a disaster to say the least.

I learnt most of my knowledge from videos, documentaries and now it’s audible. They helped me with my GCSE’s, my exams previous years and anything that I was really struggling with or random knowledge I wanted to achieve but couldn’t otherwise.

The government wants to ban social media and somehow that includes Youtube which isn’t even social media. It’s more of a learning resource than anything. In schools they use it a lot, especially for documentaries or topics that need visualisation. Visualisation and audio are a perfect way to learn as they take less concentration and effort, it works when you’re ADHD and lack that energy.

Now kids are expected to do what? How are they supposed to catch up on their work? How are they going to learn? Why YouTube? It’s really badly thought out. I know what growing up if I didn’t have access to anything in video form, I would have been a complete failure. I used to head to YouTube all the time to find out answers to questions nobody knew around me. I was a weird kid, I had questions.

Someone said “they can use their parents devices” well, what about the teens who commute to and from school because their parents are working? What devices are they supposed to use? Some parents take their devices to work with them. If I had to rely on my parents for devices, I’d never be able to use a device, they weren’t there.

You know what the real motive is behind the ban, it’s nothing to do with safety, it’s to do with digital ID. They want digital ID in or they want everyone to input their ID to companies who have a bad track record with data breaches, sounds fun. It’s more about control than protection. If they wanted to “protect kids” they wouldn’t hide behind excuses when they hired Epstein’s best mate! Mandelson
