Olly Alexander and his newly solo Years and Years project put on a damn good show on the BBC New Year’s Eve, but it drew 179 complaints from people feeling the whole thing was sexualised. Which it was, that’s the point, you don’t hire Olly Alexander for some choir work.
He’s now spoken about this to the Metro, and interestingly the BBC haven’t spoken to him at all about it, they’re brushing it off. As is he, because he’s promising to be more sexy: “I’m just going to have to push it even more next time and I have to say, if you think that was too sexual, you probably shouldn’t come to the show, they might have a heart attack… It’s kind of amazing, I loved it, honestly.’ Smiling face with heart-shaped eyes.”
That’s the spirit. Now, are you going to be Doctor Who?
