With a new album – Doggerel – coming out September 30th (watch out for our review), The Pixies are in full on release mode. They’ve already dropped the brilliant Vault of Heaven, and today there’s another cut from the album: Dregs of the Wine. You can hear it below, and see if you agree with us it’s great.

The song has the first songwriting credit for band member Joey Santiago, and he’s got a good warning about always recording yourself: “I guess I was in kind of a zombie state, just playing,” Joey said of the origins of the song. “After I stopped playing I put it down and went, ‘Well, that was a fucking waste of time, what a piece of shit I am’. “I beat myself up a lot, but my girlfriend, unbeknownst to me, was recording me. She played it back to me and I go, ‘Fuck! Hold on a second here! This stuff is good!’”

Always keep a record.
